Description

Mulago Women’s Referral Hospital, also known as Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital, is a world-class healthcare facility that caters to the health needs of women in Uganda. The hospital is located on Mulago Hill in the northern part of the city of Kampala and is part of Mulago National Referral Hospital, the largest healthcare facility in Uganda that serves as the teaching hospital of Makerere University College of Health Sciences.

Mulago Women’s Referral Hospital was constructed from April 2013, and after some delays, it was completed in July 2018. The hospital has state-of-the-art facilities that cater to obstetric and gynecologic patients, including prenatal clinics, delivery wards, surgical theaters, recovery rooms, and postnatal wards. The hospital also has an oncology wing that specializes in gynecologic cancers, such as ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancers, uterine cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, and vulvar malignancies.

In addition to the above, the hospital has a unit specializing in obstetric fistula prevention, repair, and rehabilitation, and it houses the first public fertility clinic in the country. Mulago Women’s Referral Hospital is equipped with a newborn intensive care unit, pre-term neonatal wards, and a 60-bed private wing for expectant mothers, those who have just delivered, and private gynecology patients. The hospital is capable of handling high-risk prenatal and high-risk gynecology cases, making it one of the leading healthcare facilities for women’s health in Uganda.
