Description

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally, and Uganda is no exception. The Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala has been the primary referral center for cancer patients in Uganda. However, with the increasing burden of cancer patients, there was a need for regional cancer centers. Mbale Regional Cancer Centre (MbRCC) is one of the regional cancer centers established to provide oncology care to cancer patients in Eastern Uganda.


MbRCC is a public, specialized, tertiary care medical facility owned by the Uganda Ministry of Health. The center, located on the campus of Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, is a cancer treatment, research, and teaching center affiliated with the Busitema University School of Medicine. The center’s establishment is aimed at relieving the burden of cancer patients at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala.


MbRCC is expected to become fully functional in the 2019/2020 financial year, with modern facilities and technology that make it a world-class cancer center. The center’s location, off Pallisa Road, in the central business district of the city of Mbale, makes it easily accessible to patients from the surrounding regions.


Collaboration is key in the provision of quality oncology care, and MbRCC works in collaboration with the Uganda Cancer Institute to provide the necessary oncology care to patients. The UCI specialists work together with the staff at MbRCC to ensure that cancer patients in Eastern Uganda receive
