Description

Masaka Hospital is a public healthcare facility located in the central business district of Masaka City in south-central Uganda. It serves as a referral hospital for the surrounding districts of Kalangala, Lyantonde, Masaka, Sembabule, Kalungu, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, and Rakai.

This hospital is funded by the Uganda Ministry of Health, and general care is provided free of charge to patients. It is designated as one of the 15 Internship Hospitals in Uganda, where medical school graduates can gain experience under the supervision of specialists and consultants.

Masaka Hospital has an official bed capacity of 330, but due to the high demand for medical services, the hospital often accommodates twice that number or more. With an average of 450 daily admissions, it is one of the busiest hospitals in the region.

In June 2014, the hospital began the construction of a new hospital tower to house the maternity and pediatric units, with a total bed capacity of 400 inpatients. The construction of the five-story hospital extension is fully funded by the government of Uganda and is expected to take approximately 24 months.
