
Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited (OBUL) is a commercial bank that offers a wide range of financial services to individuals and businesses across Uganda. Established in 1995 as Faulu Uganda, the bank became a limited liability company in 1999 and incorporated under the name Faulu Uganda Limited.
In 2006, Opportunity Transformation Investments and Opportunity International Australia purchased a combined majority stake of 63 percent in Faulu Uganda Limited. The remaining shares were bought by Opportunity in 2009, and the bank was renamed Opportunity Uganda Limited. In November 2011, the bank rebranded to “Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited”
As a Tier I financial institution, licensed by the Bank of Uganda, Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited has total assets worth USh132 billion (US$36.3 million) and shareholders’ equity of about USh28 billion (US$7.7 million) as of September 2019. The bank offers services such as savings and checking accounts, loans, money transfer services, and insurance services to its customers.
The bank’s headquarters are located in Opportunity House, at 1259 Old Kira Road, in Kamwookya, a business and residential neighborhood within the city of Kampala, Uganda’s capital. OBUL has an extensive branch network across the country, with branches in major cities and towns, including Jinja, Lira, Mbarara, and Masaka.
