Description

Finance Trust Bank is a commercial bank in Uganda, licensed by the Bank of Uganda, the national banking regulator. The bank was founded in 1984 as Uganda Women’s Finance Trust Limited with the objective of providing financial services to low-income people in Uganda, especially women. It has since rebranded to Uganda Finance Trust Limited, a Tier III financial institution, and then to its current name after it was granted a full commercial banking license by the Bank of Uganda in 2013.


As of December 2021, Finance Trust Bank had over 500,000 savers and more than 29,000 borrowers through a network of 34 interconnected branches located in all regions of the country. Its total customer deposits were UGX:183.4 billion (US$51.8 million), while its total assets were valued at UGX:393.9 billion (approx. US$111.3 million), with shareholders’ equity of UGX:61.2 billion (approx. US$17.29 million). The bank’s customers are mainly women, with 60% of the bank’s customer base being women.


Finance Trust Bank’s ownership is diversified, with the largest shareholder being Uganda Women’s Trust at 20.10%. Other shareholders include Oikocredit Ecumenical Development Cooperative Society from the Netherlands, Progression Eastern African Micro Finance Equity Fund, RIF North 1, Investment & Partner Afrique Entrepreneurs, and Ugandan Women Entrepreneurs.


The bank maintains a network of 34 interconnected branches across the country, with the main branch located in Katwe, Kampala. The other branches are located in Arua, Bombo Road, Busia, Entebbe, Fort Portal, Gomba, Iganga, Ishaka, Jinja, Kalangala, Kaleerwe, Kampala Road, Kamuli, Kamwenge, Kapchorwa, Kayunga, Kikuubo, Kitintale, Kumi, Lugazi, Lwengo, Masaka, Mbale, Mbarara, Mukono, Nakivubo, Nansana, Nateete, Ntungamo, Owino, Pallisa, Soroti, and Tororo.
