Hoima School of Nursing and Midwifery (HSNM) is a distinguished public institution in Uganda dedicated to training the next generation of nurses and midwives. As the only nursing school in the Albertine Graben Region, HSNM plays a crucial role in addressing the healthcare needs of the area. Established in June 2010 with support from Hoima District Local Government and the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, the school has quickly risen to prominence, becoming a preferred institution for aspiring healthcare professionals.
Recognizing its importance, the Central Government of Uganda took over HSNM in June 2011 under the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Sports (MoESTS). Since then, the institution has received full financial support, allowing it to operate independently and deliver quality education to its students. Over the years, HSNM has admitted multiple student cohorts, each consisting of approximately 66 students, into its comprehensive nursing and midwifery programs.
HSNM offers a rigorous two-and-a-half-year training program that follows the traditional curriculum for nurses and midwives. The curriculum is designed to ensure students gain theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical experience, equipping them with the skills necessary for the dynamic healthcare environment.
Students undergo intensive training under the supervision of experienced instructors, ensuring they graduate as competent and compassionate professionals ready to contribute to Uganda’s health sector.
