Description

Africa 2000 Network -Uganda (A2N Uganda) is an exceptional non-governmental organization that has been actively involved in community-based projects aimed at environmental protection and promotion of ecologically sustainable development in Uganda for over 30 years. A2N Uganda’s primary goal is to build the capacity of grassroots small and medium scale farming communities to practice sustainable agriculture as a means to secure their food security and livelihoods.

Founded in 1990, A2N Uganda started as a project initiated and supported by the United Nations Development Program in 13 African Countries (in East, Central and West Africa).

After the project’s tremendous success and an end of project evaluation, it was deemed appropriate to establish A2N Uganda as a legal entity whose primary objective was to consolidate the achievements of the project through continued mobilization of grassroots farming communities in Uganda.

As a result, in the year 2000, the project transformed into a National Non-Governmental Organization, which was formally registered as A2N Uganda in January 2002 with the Ministry of Justice as a company limited by guarantee without share capital and the NGO Board as a Non-Governmental Organization that is independent of the UNDP system.

Throughout its existence, A2N Uganda has maintained its original philosophy and implementation modality as envisaged by the 1986 General Assembly. This philosophy ensures the direct involvement of grassroots farmers in the processes of development and transformation of their communities, rooted in agriculture. By mobilizing and organizing these communities, A2N Uganda has been able to achieve significant milestones in the promotion of sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and improved livelihoods.

A2N Uganda’s success in sustainable agriculture has resulted in improved food security and livelihoods for small and medium scale farming communities in Uganda. Moreover, their commitment to promoting ecologically sustainable development has led to the protection of the environment and the conservation of natural resources.
